Healthy Options for teens

Focus Forward facilitates a Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Reproductive Health Education Program to young men and women, ages 12 - 17, while incarcerated at the Juvenile Justice Campus and during their transition to the community. The program, entitled “Healthy Options”, provides a combination of access to reproductive health services, advocacy, a medically accurate education curriculum, and transition services.

The classes are led by Fresno Barrios Unidos in partnership with Focus Forward and the Fresno County Office of Education and are held at the Juvenile Justice Campus. The class curriculum is modeled from the "Becoming A Responsible Teen" (BART) program. The young people who participate in these classes will be given referrals to services in the community with incentives such as giftcards to attend. The goal is to provide the young people the education and opportunity to participate in wise family planning and to develop healthy and productive lifestyles. Additionally, Focus Forward staff and volunteers are trained as adult allies giving them the tools they need to talk to the youth we serve about reproductive health and sexually transmitted diseases.

Workshops continue as funding permits.
